There was a time when a fight featuring Manny Pacquaio meant top dollar for sportsbooks.
Then Pacquaio decided to retire.
Retirement is a word that holds zero meaning in the boxing world.
I learned that at a young age with Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Leonard. I learned that even in boxing movies with Rocky Balboa and Apollo Creed.
More recently, we have learned that with Tyson Fury and my second favorite boxer of all-time, who just happens to be Pacquaio.
Quick tangent, I still think he beats Mayweather if they fight five years earlier and both are healthy. We’ll never know. And that’s part of the reason boxing stands where it does currently in the sports landscape.
Pacquiao is coming out of retirement now to fight Mario Barrios. Pacquiao is 46 and hasn’t fought in nearly four years.
Barrios is 30 and is currently the WBC Welterweight Champion. He won that belt from Yordenis Ugas (coincidentally Pacquiao’s last opponent in 2021).
It’s weird to see, but Pacquiao is actually an underdog at BetOnline.ag with a payout potential of $215 for every $100 bet.
The Manny Pacquiao vs. Mario Barrios fight is scheduled for Saturday, July 19, 2025 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, and still promises to be a boon for sports books worldwide.
