Pink-Haired French Poker Pro Guillaume Darcourt Leads EPT Barcelona

You gotta love a guy with pink hair.  French poker pro Guillaume Darcourt was leading this week’s EPT Barcelona Main Event coming into Monday with 195,3000 chips. 

407 players were returning for Day 2 of the €5,300 Main Event tomorrow, which became Spain’s biggest poker tournament on record.  811 players in all competed for the prize, which pays just over US$1 million.

Isildur1 Shocking $1.4 Million Winning Weekend in High Stakes Online Poker

Swedish high stakes online poker phenom Isildur1 continues his rollercoaster ride of big wins and big losses.  This past weekend, he was sitting atop the world with a $1.4 million take.

Isildur1’s victim was none other than Illari Sahamies, who beat the Swede out of $482K just days prior.  Blom’s winnings over Sahamies during his weekend session at the $100/$200 Pot Limit Omahatable were just over $1 million.

Daniel Negreanu Compares Current US Policy to Cold War Communist Russia

Poker pro Daniel Negreanu recently escaped the United States to his native Canada where he is now free to play online poker from the comfort of his home.

The US Justice Department indicted three of the world’s largest online poker rooms on April 15, forcing them to shut of hundreds of thousands of players including Negreanu.  The companies were charged with funneling gambling monies through a small Utah bank, masking transactions as purchases for dog food and golf balls.

Online Poker Traffic Sees 3 Percent Drop Off: Bodog Poker Hits 1000 Mark

Last week the online poker industry witnessed another 3 percent drop in traffic.

Nine of the top ten networks saw a drop.  Merge Poker was the lone exception, seeing a 4 percent increase in traffic.  That network is supposed to begin allowing new US registrants any day now.

Bodog Poker and Cake Poker, both of which accept US customers, enjoyed modest gains as well, “indicating a general resurgence for US-facing sites,” according to PokerScout.com.

78 Charges Against 'Dougherty Gang'

A woman who stripped at poker games prior to allegedly robbing a bank and engaging in a shootout with Colorado law enforcement will face up to 78 charges along with her two siblings.

UPI.com reported that Lee Grace Dougherty, 29, and her brothers Dylan, 26, and Ryan 21, were in shackles when they appeared in a Walsenburg, Colo., court one after the other Monday, The Pueblo (Colo.) Chieftain reported.

Lee Grace Dougherty faced 29 complaints, Ryan Dougherty 24 and Dylan Dougherty 23.

California Online Poker Bill Dead Until 2012

A bill that would have legalized online poker in the state of California has been put on hold until 2012.

California state Sen. Presdient Darrell Steinberg broke the news that the bill proposed by Sen. Roderick Wright, chairman of the Governmental Organization Committee; and the other by Sen. Lou Correa would not have time to be heard prior to the end of the legislative year September 9. 

“We believe that well-thought-out, fair solutions to these differences can be reached,'' Steinberg wrote.

Director Nick Cassavetes to Challenge Poker Lawsuit: Demands to Return Winnings

Director Nick Cassavetes has been caught up in a complicated scandal involving Hollywood celebrity underground high stakes poker games and ponzi schemes. 

A lawsuit claims that a hedge funds manager used investor funds to organize the high stakes games, resulting in losses of hundreds of thousands of dollars.  Spiderman star Toby Maquire is also named in the suit while Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez allegedly played in some of the games.
