Nets Owner to Challenge Putin for Presidency: Odds to be Released

The New Jersey Nets billionaire owner could soon become the new President of Russia. 

Mikhail Prokhorov will run against Prime Minister Vladimir Putin in the March presidential election.   Putin has come under fire in recent weeks for alleged widespread fraud during Russia’s December 4 parliamentary election.  His party only won around 50 percent of the vote compared to 64 percent four years ago.

Antoine Walker Gets 5 Years Probation for Vegas Debt

LAS VEGAS — (Associated Press) - Former NBA star Antoine Walker was sentenced Tuesday to five years of probation and ordered to pay $770,050 in restitution to three Las Vegas casinos after pleading guilty to failing to repay gambling debts.

Walker and his lawyer declined to comment after his brief appearance before Clark County District Court Judge Valorie Vega.

Walker has repaid some of his Las Vegas casino debts since his arrest in July 2009 in Lake Tahoe, where he planned to play in a celebrity golf tournament.

NBA Cancelled Season Not a Concern to Bookies

Bookmakers in attendance at this past week’s Punta Cana Poker Classic expressed little worry over the NBA season being cancelled this year. 

“We don’t take enough action on the NBA to have a serious impact,” said one online bookmaker.  “It’s not a big deal.”

Bookies admitted that College Basketball gets much heavier action as does the NFL and College Football.
